slingsby CC tour 2011

slingsby CC tour 2011The LCA were again put to the test against a team from the UK last week when Slingsby cricket club from the York area arrived on the island to play two games.
The first on Monday saw a mixture of Lanzarote league players play against the tourists at PDC football stadium.
The home side batted first and scored a credible 157 for 8 in the allocated 25 overs with Darren Spurr 32, Raman 26 and Martyn Powell 28 amongst the runs, in reply Slingsby got home in the last over scoring 158 for 7 in a very tight finish, G Schofield 42 and Tom Harrison 23 batting well in score which included Matty Evans bowling well for the LCA with figures of 3 for 11.
Onto Wednesday and the tourist second and final game in a short stay in Lanzarote got underway again at PDC and like Monday the hosts batted first scoring 193 for 9 in 25 overs which looked a good total , Craig Trapps 49, Monish 36, Raman 33 and Darren Hawkins 27 scoring runs.
The visitors were frustrated at the start of their innings by some superb bowling from Deepu and Verinder Singh keeping it tight and restricting Slingsby to 30 runs off the first ten overs leaving them a mountain to climb, once again G schofield was amongst the runs with a well played 52 and A.

Curtain comes down on season

Curtain comes down on seasonThe final competitive match of the 2011 season took place last Sunday at PDC with the annual presidents eleven playing the league champions ST Georges in a 30 over game.

The president selected mostly 2 players from each side to compete with the champions.

The match itself started brightly for the presidents side who were put into bat by ST Georges captain Des Stonier who was carrying an ankle injury, Charlie Cook who once again this year represented Spain at youth level was in superb form aided by fellow opener Darren Hawkins as they amassed 94 without loss at the 15 over break.

It was evident that the champions were missing some fire power with the ball as the long hard season was taking its toll, the presidents carried on the good batting form with Frankie Kishnarni and Monish enjoying some wayward bowling as the presidents posted 234 in their 30 overs.

In reply ST Georges struggled all the way losing regular wickets, only Danny Beatson contributed as they crumbled to just over 100 all out.

It was always going to be difficult for the champions against a very strong presidents select.

Thames trains arrive on the 8TH Nov to play a series of games to be held at the PDC ground on weds 9Th, Fri 11Th , Sunday the 13Th and Monday 14Th all games 1030am start.
