Charlie Cook became the first player from the LCA to be selected for the Spanish under 17 team, who will be playing in the Isle of Man between the 23rd and 30th July. Charlie and the other lads in the Spanish squad will be playing against the hosts as well as Switzerland, Germany and Austria if they are succesful in the group stages they will go on to play in the final with the possibility of getting promotion to European under 17 1st Division. Charlie received his LCA travelling kit from Jack Talbot, the LCA Chairman as well as the President, Geoff Dean and the Director of Cricket, Paul Jones just before the match against Ovingdean CC, who were on tour this last weekend.
On the cricket pitches of Lanzarote this weekend saw temperatures touching 30 degress as well as the 3rd Round of the F/15 Championship. This competition involves all the teams playing at least one match. This week it was the turn of the Colts to play 2 matches, which was always going to be a big ask for the youngest team in the league and it lived up to the Colts worst fears. In their first match against St George's they found themselves chasing 245, with Mikey carrying his bat with 105 for St George's. The Colts fell way short with 127 for 6. The task didn't get any easier in the second match with Frankie scoring 121 not out leaving the Colts chasing 237 but they almost repeated their first match score by getting 127 for 5. However, there were serveral good performances from the Colts, Danny Collins scoring 56 against St George's and Nikhil Merchandani carrying his bat against LCC, scoring 33, as well as getting his dad, Jackie, out, were the highlights of an ever improving Colts team.
In the matches played at Yaiza the Dragons scored 105 for 5 but King Arthur's chased it down with just the loss of 1 wicket. In the first match of the day Playa Blanca posted a respectable 148 for 4 and felt confidence after some good performances recently against the top teams. However, an under par bowling performance saw the Playa Honda Commitments win easily with the just one wicket down.
Next week sees the resumption of the Championship race as Lanzarote take on the Dragons in Yaiza and the Commitments play St George's in Puerto del Carmen, both matches start at 10.30.
